BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION 83

 COURSE DESCRIPTION                                                                                                        1.5 Units

83        Contracts

 

PREREQUISITE:  None.

 

A study of the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to contracts for product transportation and logistics functions and considerations for drafting and negotiating contracts with freight carriers, warehousemen and other logistics service providers. Total 27 hours lecture.

 

SHORT DESCRIPTION FOR CLASS SCHEDULE

 

An analysis of considerations involved in the drafting and negotiation of freight and logistics contracts.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 

          Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

 

          1.       Analyze contracting needs in the supply chain.

 

          2.       Explain the legal and regulatory requirements of logistics contracting.

 

          3.       Analyze types of freight and logistics contracts and their provisions.

 

          4.       Evaluate freight and logistics contract provisions.

 

 

COURSE CONTENT

 

          TOPICS

 

 

1.       Review of deregulatory legislation.

 

          2.       Types of contracts for logistics and freight services.

 

          3.       Contract provisions and clauses

 

          4.       Contractual problems

 

 

Students are also assigned reading, writing and other outside assignments equivalent to two hours per one hour lecture.

 

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION   

 

          Methods of instruction may include, but are not limited to:

 

          Class lectures/discussions/demonstrations

          Videos/films/slides/audio tapes/internet presentations and exercises

          Pair and small group activities/discussion

          Class exercises

          Reports and papers

          Handouts

          Cooperative learning tasks

          Individual conferences

          Guest lecturers

          Computer aided / web enhanced

          Distance learning (on-line or hybrid)

 

METHODS OF EVALUATION  

 

Students will be evaluated for mastery of learning objectives by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:

 

          Oral reports/presentations/performance

          Written reports/presentations

          Quizzes/examinations

          Written assignments

          Class and individual projects

          Participation

          Final examination
